| This was posted on mmo-champion a couple days ago but I just got around to reading it. The original blue post can be found here: http://blue.mmo-champion.com/5/10544534810-not-possible-to-leave-ret-paladin-feedback.html
"Ret should be as close to the top as anyone else. Our buckets at this point are basically DPS, Tanks, Healers. When the tank and healer are doing dps, it's even closer. You may be a couple hundred dps lower than a pure dps class (hunter, mage, warlock, rogue) but for most players, the numbers will be close enough that a raid with a good Retadin and an okay rogue will see Ret on top.
This is a change in philosophy from the BC era, where we would engineer hybrid classes to be 25% to 30% and sometimes much lower than dps classes.
If there are dps differences, it's going to take a very, very skilled guild to be able to accuately decipher them. That is because a boss is not a training dummy. For almost all of us, it's going to be impossible to tell whether the rogue doing 2500 dps and the paladin doing 2300 dps is because of the class or the player. And it is likely to be a different number on the very next boss.
We're trying to hedge out bets and NOT promise that every class will do 2500 dps in all cases, because that just won't happen. There are too many other variables. But you won't be far below other classes... as you often were in BC and Classic WoW."

| In a lot of ways this makes sense - if damages can all roughly be the same then it won't matter what classes you bring as much what people want to play or play well. no more "only 1 the ret, 1 feral druid, 1 ele shaman, 1 enh shaman, etc" - that's really a good thing, i know lots of people in wbc enjoy hybrids and this really allows everyone to play what they like. Fun is good! Granted, you're going to see super top end guilds figure out a way to max-min the system - but we're no longer forced into "only one of the ret to buff the group, no more" or "only one of the enhancement shaman to buff the rogues." Hopefully this same mantra comes to the "pure" classes - that is a disc priest being able to do some things with equal effectiveness compared to holy (with better shields, PIing people, pain suppression being useful for a boss fight...), arcane-frost-fire mages being roughly on equal ground (and not, well, fire is 15% more dps and brings a raid buff....so respec you!), demo-affliction-destro locks all being "what is more fun" rather than 'must be destro - it's 20% more damage once geared" Edit: some 'pure' damagers are angry because this is going to severely limit their ability to contribute in more casual guilds - guilds that don't have the same 25 man raid 95% of the time as many hybrids will be able to respec to fill alternative roles while damages might get stuck on the outside looking in on a dps heavy but lacking healy-tankish night. I don't think that will be a problem here - but personally I am mightily attacted to a hybrid class because it allows 3 totally different playstyles on 1 toon - I don't have to reroll or try to super gear an alt which I honestly don't have time to do - plus really, it's kinda annoying to buy two epic fliers, etc when I don't have unlimited time. So I'm heavily leaning towards Ameerah for Wotlk. We'll see what happens here - maybe more fights that call for certain classes to be present Lots of 'gimmick' over stand-in-on-spot-move once per phase-tank & spank will do a lot to help blizzard provide more entertaining fights and if many bosses have different pros and cons then it prevents a lot of the min-maxers from being able to do so for the entire raid. I'm happy to see that hybrid players won't be limited to a "one per raid" buffing role, my only concern being limitation of dps slots for certain types of classes if min-maxxing really takes hold over playing with friends and doing the best with what people like to play. I'm really excited to play ameerah with all the changes - going to be fun
