Mages will probably want to be herbalism/engineering to stack fire seeds, 2 min trinkets, 2 min CDs, engineering glove enchant use.
It's really a tough call as a mage - especially arcane.
340 haste (10.7% rating @ 80) for 8 secondsOR 66dmg (28 gloves, 19 each ring)all the time (enchanting)OR (28dmg from glove enchant) + 65 from alchemy.
So probably going to be alchemy/engineering/enchanting + herbalism. Any non-arcane mage will probably go alchemy as it is superior to enchanting.
Quick look:
Damage may in fact be better with alchemyhere asyou get90+ more damageall that time and adding on towhat should be "(cooldown stacking from hell) pom+pyro, missile barrage, arcane
barrage - other stuff" other stuff would be an arcane blast v. fireball essentially - 1 time ever 2 mins v. 90 dmg all the time.
EDIT: and JC is good too - 3 gems that are super amazing and count as any color - so a mage can, for example, not use two 12dmg/15sta gems and get to use 32dmg instead.
Alchemy looks better from what I can tell at the moment - just depends on what the math ends up being with this stuff.
Arcane is so rough to balance - if you have to account for a 33% or less/33%+ spec then you just don't have enough points to get pushback resist in either tree.

The unstated principle in what lee is saying is that since everything is BOE, it's like everyone is a tailor/bs/lw in BC. Instead of levelling the profession to get spellfire/stormherald/etc... now you just collect the mats and find the crafter and you have a nice pre-raid set.
One less excuse for not having decent gear!

| Well, We need at least a couple people to stay tailoring/LW/BS so someone can make the BOE's =P

| Yeah, no worries there. I can guarantee you, so long as Eric and I are in the guild, you will have a BS/LW/Tailor with just about every available recipe.

| Yeah, I didn't really figure it would be a problem, I just had this vision in my head of everyone in the guild being the same profession because it was the "best" and not having any of some profession or another. Guess my imagination got away from me.
